Two new players develop German streaming landscape - ADZINE

Paramount Plus is owned by media giant Viacom CBS, which has been running an ad-supported version of its service in the US since June. However, in this country, Paramount Plus can be booked as an additional package via Sky. Viacom has partnered with CBS Comcast to facilitate launches in the DACH, Great Britain, Ireland and Italy markets.

As part of the collaboration, Sky is contributing exclusive content, so Paramount Plus also has a lot to offer itself. Among other things, the program includes all the hit movies like Southpark or all the series and movies from the Star Trek universe. Viacom CBS is not fully experienced in Europe, however, the group also includes Pluto TV service, which is already active in Germany, and is responsible for most of the growth of the in-house streaming business in terms of users and sales.

Roku also announced that it would expand to Germany. Details are not clear, but the service should start this year. Arthur van Rest, VP International, Roku, promised to announce “a lot of exciting news for Germany” in the coming weeks.

Roku is one of the largest OT providers from the USA. The platform competes with sticks from Amazon and Apple, as well as a wide range of video-on-demand offers. This includes Netflix or Sky, and Roku also runs its own channels. Uses marketing data generated by the company on its own advertising platform. Roku is already likely to make a name for itself in the adtech space by purchasing the Demand Side Platform (DSP) Dataxu by the end of 2019 to strengthen its own advertising platform. With OneView, the new DSP from the Rock universe was unveiled six months later.
