The remake of Luca Guadagnino’s classic “The Swimming Pool” may not match – the great actors comfort it. Our movie tip
On a southern Italian island, the artist couple Paul and Marion meet their old friend Harry and daughter-in-law in the movie “The Swimming Pool” (1969). Afterwards plays and loose tracking shots follow, “a big splash” getting better as he approaches camp – as soon as Guadagnino wants to tell his screenplay “just”, his script weaknesses become apparent.
Guadagnino’s attempt to politicize the well – known story over the past few meters was remarkable, as his characters’ Dolce Vita contrasted with the plight of Somali refugees on the Italian Mediterranean coast. Anyway, the film goes through its glittering characters: Tilda Swinton maintains a great deal of silence, while Ralph Phineas puts on an extraordinary performance, culminating in a manic expressive dance called “Emotional Rescue” by the Rolling Stones.
“A Big Splash” will air on Sat 3 at 11.35pm.
