A tsunami alert was issued in Japan on Saturday evening, and the National Weather Service warned of three-meter-high waves following a volcanic eruption in the Tonga archipelago on Friday.
At 11:55 a.m. local time (1455 GMT) on Saturday, the agency reported a 4-foot-high wave off the southern island of Amami Oshima, while smaller waves were observed off the Pacific coast of Japan and elsewhere.
