Transportation officials are urging people to be prepared for passenger jumps when they return to school

Published on

Transportation officials are urging people to be prepared for the expected increase in commuters on public transport when schools return tomorrow.

The National Transport Authority has warned passengers to use public transport only if they need it.

Level 5 regulations limit public transport capacity to 25%, which “causes some services to be under extreme pressure and lag behind passengers”.

The problem is much worse in the morning and in Dublin.

NTA chief executive Ann Abraham said: “Returning to schools on Monday will cause extra stress.

“We are anxious to ensure that users are aware of the situation.

The NTA urges people to avoid travel during rush hours and to use public transportation for essential purposes.

No one wants to see a situation where essential workers like those in the healthcare sector are unable to get on the bus.

“We continue to encourage people to walk or cycle wherever possible. Customers who have no alternative to public transport expect their travel to take longer and plan accordingly.

“Drivers and other public transport officials operate in a very challenging environment and users must always remain polite to them.

“Of course, cover your face when using public transportation.”
