The U.S. plans to reopen the border for vaccinated travelers

Published on

Currently, travelers from Europe, India, Brazil or China cannot enter the United States for any specific reason.

The United States, which has closed its borders to many foreign travelers, is finally planning to reopen to fully immunized people, a White House official said Wednesday amid discussions about a global moratorium on the scale of the reminder.

Washington is developing a step-by-step approach with limited exceptions to “fully immunize all foreign nationals coming to the United States from all countries,” the source said without giving a schedule.

The working groups dedicated to this issue are “developing a policy to be prepared to move to this new system when the time is right,” the official said.

Although the tone is very cautious, it is a development of the United States that does not want to hear about border reopening tests or vaccines until July 26th. Currently, travelers from Europe, India, Brazil or China cannot enter the United States for any specific reason.

Calls for interdependence

Washington has so far remained deaf to calls for complementarity from Europeans. As EU countries decide to reopen their own borders to Americans, travelers from the Shenzhen area of the United Kingdom, the United Kingdom and Ireland will not be able to enter the United States from March 2020 if they are given the Kovid-19 vaccine or given a negative test.

Contrary to the resumption movement envisioned by Washington, Beijing has announced that it will tighten restrictions on foreign travel for its citizens as China resumes the epidemic on its soil.

The White House on Wednesday rejected a World Health Organization call for a moratorium on the recall of Kovid-19 vaccines, urging the United States not to choose to give it to its citizens or to donate to poorer countries.

“Gaping Inequality”

“This is a fake alternative,” said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki. “We think we can do both, while giving reminders to Americans that both are not formally planned or helping poor countries.”

They recalled that the United States had already delivered more than 100 million doses of the vaccine against Covid-19 to countries with fewer benefits, or, in Washington’s opinion, more than any other country in the world. The World Health Organization on Wednesday called for an end to recall activity until at least the end of September in an effort to bridge the gap between rich and poor countries.

“We need to turn this around urgently: most vaccines go to rich countries, and most go to poorer countries,” said Tedros Adanom Gebrias, head of the World Health Organization.
