Rashik Sahid, 24, created a website with just 2,000 lines of code that includes a map that shows which ice cream machines are not working at tens of thousands of different McDonald’s restaurants across the US.
“I created it as a joke because it is common knowledge that the machine will always crash,” Zahid told CNN. “So in the beginning I wanted to get to know myself.
Restaurant locations that do not offer ice cream may not have been updated recently due to a flood of web traffic to the site, Sahid said.
Since launching the project on Thursday afternoon, mcbroken.com has collected more than 732,000 page views, said Sahid, a self-taught programmer.
Visitors to Mcbroken.com include David Tower, Vice President of McDonald’s US Communications and Government Relations.
“McDonald’s is excited to translate customer passion into customer-passion solutions to make that experience more realistic,” CNN said in a statement.
“We are committed to making desserts available from our dessert menu at all our restaurants, and regularly work with our franchisees and distributors to enhance and enhance the restaurant experience so that customers can enjoy McDonald’s food wherever they want,” the company said.
