Russia’s security services (FSB) said on Tuesday they had arrested a Russian national suspected of passing classified documents to Ukraine and opened an investigation for treason, amid a Russian offensive against its neighbor. “The FSB found that a Russian citizen (committed an act) of treason by passing information harmful to the security of the Russian Federation to Ukraine,” the security services said in a statement.
This unidentified resident of the Moscow region, who ran an aeronautical factory, photographed fragments of plans for fighter aircraft parts with a mobile phone before sending them to a Ukrainian citizen who was a flight attendant (…). Factory in Odessa, a city in southern Ukraine.
“The facts would have taken place when he was the technical director of an aeronautical factory and had access to classified documents + top secret +,” the press release noted. An investigation is open for “high treason,” the FSB said, a crime that carries a very heavy prison sentence in Russia. The suspect was taken into custody.
