“When we vaccinate people, allergic reactions are not uncommon, they sometimes occur, and sometimes even severe reactions, but they are very rare.
He says the Pfizer vaccine is safe.
The Pfizer vaccine is 95% effective and protects men and women equally with people of different races and ethnicities.
It is safe to receive for people 16 years of age and older.
But new concerns have been raised after two health workers in the UK experienced adverse reactions and used epipen after receiving a shot the very first day they received immunizations.
Following the reported reactions, people with severe allergies were given a broader warning to avoid receiving the vaccine.
But Hots says he hopes the FDA will use a different and clearer allergy warning for Americans. “Vaccination should not be given to individuals with a previous history of an allergic reaction to a vaccine or injection,” he recommended.
He said more than 50 million Americans have 3.6 million epilepsy allergies.
Hots is concerned about creating fear in such a large segment of the population.
The Pfizer vaccine has already been tested in thousands of Americans who have similar side effects to receiving the flu vaccine at the injection site, such as pain, headaches, fever, fatigue, and muscle aches.
Hots said all the symptoms will go away in a day or two.
He says Americans with allergies should plan to get their COVID-19 vaccine after a discussion with a primary care physician.
“After we vaccinate, we monitor them for 30 minutes so they can be treated medically if there is any serious reaction.”
