Munich – Formula 1 movies from around the world have a long history in Hollywood. As streaming provider Netflix has now confirmed, Formula 1 is a star-studded thriller from around the world.

Star Wars meets the Irishman

Hollywood legend Robert De Niro (“The Irishman”) and “Star Wars” actor John Boyega will play a major role. The film is set against the backdrop of Formula 1’s world today.

There are already approximate details about the plot: it’s about a young racing driver in Formula 1 who gets involved with the Mafia and then fears for his life and family.

Through his announcements, producer Gerard McMurray gives it every reason to expect: “This is the story of a young man from Detroit who is developing into a superstar in Formula 1. His mentor is battling former mafia ties,” McMurray said.

The fantasy thriller is the first major Hollywood production on the subject of “Formula 1” in a contemporary context since the 1976 release of “Bobby Deerfield”. At the time, some scenes were recorded during Formula 1 season as well.
