The commercial opening of the second generation submarine fiber optic cable between Brazil and Europe is a novelty that will make life easier for thousands of companies and customers starting in mid-June. Currently, data communication between Brazil and Europe is built using a submarine cable between Fortaleza and the State of Virginia (USA), from where it travels to Europe. This means that communication passes through the United States before sending data to the European continent, which increases distance and cost.
The operation was carried out by Ireland-based Elling Company, which has installed more than 6,000 km of underwater cables with passages on the Cape Verde and the island of Madeira between Fortaleza and Science in Portugal. From Fortaleza, in the first phase, another state-of-the-art submarine cable will connect the northeastern part of Santos and Rio de Janeiro. Now, operators must use backbone technology to transfer data between the southeast and northeast of Brazil, or the old cable that opened in 1999 to transfer data.
Elling reported that the direct relationship between Brazil and Europe, which has a positive impact on a variety of activities such as financial marketing activities, application conversations, online gaming and scientific research, will halve latency. The submarine cable cost $ 1 billion, and most of the investment made by the Irish company was backed by the European Union. An initiative that will make progress for the next 20 years.
