Andy Walker claimed that the Celtic board did not know what they were doing and that Neil Lennon could if Billy McNeil was fired.
The Hoops board backed current Bose Lennon last night in a current statement following increased pressure after he dropped points at St. Johnstone.
Celtic boss Dermot Desmond has made a personal phone call to the under fire manager and given his full support for the club over a big season.
Old-fashioned rivals Rangers have flown in domestically and Europe, and have yet to enjoy defeat this season – and top the Premiership with 13 points.
Celtic have already refused to be knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers until the Ferrero-Waldner stage, having been knocked out in the Europa League group stage after Rose County lost their Stronglehold domestically following their shock Bethfred Cup exit.
With two wins in 12 games, fans protested Lennon’s move and his removal from the board.
Walker believes it’s time to create a really tough sense of direction and change direction.
Speaking Sky Sports, Walker said: “I am not surprised the Celtic board does not know what they are doing.
“You have to be strong in a situation like this. I think sometimes you have to make tough decisions, and I think this is the time to make very tough decisions.
“That decision is to change direction and return to the previous activity.
“I was here in 1991 when Billy McNeill was the manager. He was sacked by the Celtics. He was one of the best captains they ever had, and he had a lot of success as a manager.
“Years later Billy was right, because the result was not good and he was not doing it, and it was time for the Celtics to move on.
Hit or miss? Every Celtic transfer since John Park has been on fire as a recruitment record
“I think duty here is exempt from the Celtic board, and it’s amazing how quickly everything here was unveiled.
“The Celtic team I’m seen over the last few months, it’s not working. I’m looking at the players, they’m not as good as they were last season, their performance is declining.”
