Local police say a speeding SUV overturned during a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, in the United States this Sunday (21), killing at least five people and injuring 40 others.
“We can confirm that five people were killed and 40 were injured. However, those figures may change as more information is gathered,” Waukesha County police said in a statement.
International agencies report that at least 12 children were among the injured.

The event took place just after 4:30 pm (local, 10:30 pm GMT) during an annual parade in the town of Waukesha, a suburb of Milwaukee.
“A red van entered our Christmas parade,” said police chief Dan Thompson. He said the investigation was continuing and the driver had been identified and taken into custody.
There were no other threats, officials pointed out.

The “Journal Sentinel” reported that the footage showed the SUV speeding towards the parade.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said he and his wife were “praying for Waukesha” and “all affected children, families and community members.”
