A status yellow rain warning has been issued across the country.

Met Iron says it will continue to rain heavily from tonight until Tuesday evening.

Although some areas will be below the warning level, the forecast said there is a possibility of flash floods in mountainous areas and more localized areas.

The warning is valid from midnight today until 7pm on Tuesday.

Met Iron, a climate adviser for Ireland, says unusually high tides with strong winds increase the risk of flooding the coast.
