Stanley Cup Final Game 1 Results: Players take a 1-0 lead over lightning with excellent defensive performance

Published on

The Dallas players allowed a 1-0 lead against Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup final on Saturday. Tampa Bay failed to convert many of their chances in the final period – including multiple power plays – leading to a 4-1 star victory.

It was far from the most exciting start of the game as each team seemed to be shaking the nerves of playing in a championship series. The players were able to get satisfaction first, get a strong forecheck and push the expensive Tampa Bay turnover, giving Joel Hanley a chance to score the first goal of the series. The Lightning opener was a little more convinced, to retouch a shot from a defender’s skate and connect one goal each to the back of the net.

Dallas dominated the second period, holding the Lightning behind and overtaking Andrei Vasilevsky to take a 3-1 lead into the final period. It was then that Tampa Bay began to take things more seriously on the offensive end, but ultimately these attempts were in vain. Anton Khudobin, who had never started the play-off game before this season, was unable to score a single goal for his opponents.

Dallas’ Cinderella Story is now three games away from the end of its Fairy Tale, the franchise’s first title since 1999. Game 2 requires a strong response to lightning.
