Today, for the first time in two years, St. Patrick’s Day is taking place on the island of Ireland. In Dublin, thousands of people witnessed the joyous return of the popular St. Patrick’s Festival, with people celebrating Ireland’s National Day with a colorful parade through the city streets.
American actor John C. Reilly was the international guest at the St. Patrick’s Festival. The ‘Step Brothers’ star was in Dublin to see the sights, including a special visit to the Guinness Book of World Records and the Guinness Storehouse before attending the first St. Patrick’s Day Parade after 2019.
Eighty million people around Ireland celebrate St. Patrick’s Day around the world. Irish music and dance have become synonymous with celebrations on this day. The Green Button Festival today illuminates digital billboards in these four cities, connecting travelers with some of Ireland’s most popular and upcoming musicians. City dwellers can interact with billboards to see audio and visual recordings of some of Ireland’s best performing at various locations around the island.
The festival comes to life when passers-by use their smartphones to scan giant QR codes and press the green button to activate the performance.
In addition to billboards in major cities, performances can be followed at any time on the Ireland.com website, making it possible to experience an Irish music festival anywhere in the world.
The event and the technology behind it is the first “Music Billboard Festival” to take place in cities and time zones controlled by people’s cell phones.
The festival’s artists include County Donegal’s Clannad and Denis Chaila, and Ryan McMullen of Belfast’s O Yeh Music Center, which was declared a UNESCO Music City by the end of 2021. Reverendance is performed on screen by contemporary folk band Kila, DJ, singer Gemma Bradley, Giants Causeway and Cliffs of Mohair.
The Green Button Festival sheds light on the established names and budding stars of the Irish music scene and shows a new aspect of Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day.
