(ANSA) – Madrid, 02 August – The latest estimate of the total cost of completing the construction of Antonio Gowda’s masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, began in 1882, with a total of over 4 374 million never completed. The El Pas newspaper reported today that it has access to a document approved by the Municipality of Barcelona in 2019, which establishes the budget needed to complete the works.

The private canonical foundation responsible for construction sites, which had never been officially approved in the previous 137 years, presented the plan to obtain construction permits from the Sagrada Familia. It was thought at the time that a goal that Covid had declared unattainable by September 2020 after the start of the Pandemic could be completed by 2026.

According to a recent article by La Vanguardia, most jobs will not be able to resume before 2024, as there has been a significant drop in revenue due to declining tourist arrivals since March 2020. The current forecast is that the number of tourists visiting Sagrada Familia next year will reach 50% by 2019 (when they are, on average, 12,000 per day).

Currently, construction of one of the towers anticipated in Gaud’s project has not been completed, and the Maria Tower continues. The goal is to complete it by the end of this year: its total height will be 138 meters.
