In April 2021, a giant fish weighing more than 100 kg and more than 100 years old was caught in the Detroit River in the United States. The animal was sent back to the forest.
The “River Monster” was released by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office in Alpena, about 400 miles[400 km]from Detroit, the capital of Michigan.See map below).
Called the “Real Life River Monster”, the fish weighed 109 kilograms (240 pounds) and was 2 meters 28 centimeters (6’10 “) long, about 1 meter and 20 centimeters in circumference (4 feet).
“Last week was a once-in-a-lifetime catch for our unique species from the Detroit River!”, The company celebrated on a social network. “This fish is one of the largest lake sturgeon ever recorded in the US.”
“Based on its circumference and size, it is estimated that it is a female and has been floating in our waters for more than 100 years,” the Alpena Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office said in detail.
“Detroit, the fourth largest city in the United States, may have been born on the Detroit River in 1920,” the organization said. “She quickly returned to the river.”
Lake sturgeon are a freshwater fish that lives in North America from Hudson’s Bay, Canada to the Mississippi River, which flows from north to south in the US.
According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, male sturgeons can live for 50 to 60 years, but females can live up to 150 years.
