Former Dandalk goalkeeper Gary Rogers has said he will work as a scout for a company led by renowned agent George Mendis to identify and nurture the best young talent in the Irish league.

Mendes is one of the most famous and successful football agents in the world, working under big names like Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea and Jose Mourinho.

His company, Justifute, has offices in Porto, Lisbon and Dublin.

Rogers, 39, announced his retirement in December after a 21-year career.

He spoke to the RTE Soccer podcast and explained what his new position meant.

The league is the only show related to the game in town, so I mainly look at the players in our league and hope to see them when the smaller leagues get up, ”he said.

“I will look for good young talents and try to organize them for moves between England, Portugal, Spain or any other country to develop their skills.

“It simply came to our notice then. The organization was founded by George Mendis. Although they are based in Portugal, they have an international base here. They represent players from all over the world.

The most famous of them would be Ronaldo. In our country, they also represent Matt Doherty, so there are many big names associated with the club. This is a very exciting opportunity to work with a large company with many big names around the world. “

At the start of the intercontinental season, Rogers Gaelic will add Monaghan football players as coach, and he admits he is looking for new challenges after retirement.

“It simply came to our notice then. When I played, I never overcame it. It’s about your connections and integrating with the search for the best young talent. Life.

“It simply came to our notice then. Now, this will be the League of Ireland because it will be the first football to be played here. ”

“Right now, the strategy is to focus on young players who can achieve through the Irish League. Given the current state of football, I think there are good opportunities for younger players to play senior football in this country. ”

In this post-Brexit situation, minors are not allowed to travel to the UK until they are 18 years old. This gives Gestifute the opportunity to identify the best players and connect with clubs across Europe.

“You have to adapt to the individual needs of each player,” Rogers added.

“Joining clubs when players are 15 or 16 is not like that now – it certainly would not be in the UK.”

“You have to tune the player and look at his features. Do you want to stay in the Irish League and gain experience here? Or going to the gym, maybe in Portugal, Spain or the Netherlands?

“You have to look at the personality and characteristics of each player and do the best for them so that they can make the most of their skills and career.”
