Reception and exhibition to mark Verte Ireland's 20th anniversary

Published on

To round off its 20th anniversary celebrations, Verte Ireland invites people to a very special evening on the theme of Light on 28th September at Holy Trinity Church. HALO artwork unveiled on the 22ndOSigned by Renaud Sauvé, the duo will then perform a luminescent show.

Ceramist Renaud Souve took more than a year to design and make six hanging lights in the church at the heritage site. Each of these lamps is made of 432 porcelain plates connected by linen threads. The project came to light in 2021 when Verte Ireland started thinking about the lighting of Holy Trinity Church. The aim was to optimize its interior lighting, welcoming more and more cultural activities and events. At the same time, an artistic project matured with the Irish ceramist Renaud Sauve, who conceived the project, with the greatest respect for the architectural features and historical value of the site.

“With this new lighting, space and light resonate. My dearest wish is that every human being can open their eyes wide and know how to correspond with all living things around us. The feeling of nature is a source of inspiration and a starting point for the development of all knowledge,” says Renaud Souve.

The project was made possible with the support of several financial partners, including MRC des Appalaches, SADC de l'Amiante, Promutuel, the Municipality of Ireland and the crowdfunding campaign's “gold” donors: Les Carrières Lessard inc. and metal style. Appetizers and drinks will be served at 7pm prior to the unveiling of this artwork.

This opening will be followed by a show by the luminescent duo formed in 2015 out of a desire to unite two instruments with unusual complementary sounds: the harp and the dulcimer. Luminescent stands out for its music, which is catchy. Evoking echoes of ancient musical traditions such as ragas and gamelan, the duo seamlessly moves between the contemporary nuances of minimalist music and jazz. Beyond the harp and handpan, kalimba, euphonium and tongue drums also add color to the ensemble, adding texture and depth to the performances.

Experienced percussionist and self-taught multi-instrumentalist Pierre-Olivier Bolducin's skillful playing demonstrates a rare mastery of the handpan, while Coralie Gauthier combines her classical training with her love of jazz and music to bring a fresh perspective to the harp.
