Qatar joined Group A with Portugal, Serbia, the Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan. They play their home games in Europe to facilitate short travel time for rivals.

Qatar have qualified for the tournament as the host nation for the next World Cup, so their results in Group A will not be considered for qualification.
