A man in Pennsylvania’s request to find an ICU to take his severely ill Kovid-19 affected mother has gone viral.

Shawn Ryder’s mother, Karen, was infected with the corona virus in mid-November. She was admitted to Hanover Hospital two hours west of Philadelphia and has been on a ventilator since Nov. 23, her son wrote on social media.

But when her condition worsened, Karen needed an extracorporeal membrane oxygen (ECMO) machine – a device that was not available at Hanover Hospital.

“We can not promise that a hospital will be available to take her for an ECMO test,” a doctor told Ryder.

In a series of his heartfelt messages Facebook page, Ryder wrote: “Is Covid associated with ICUs at York Hospital, Hershey Hospital, Penn State, Temple or Maryland Hospitals? My mother is not doing well and is making the most of Hanover Hospital skills.

“We are looking for a hospital with an ECMO machine and a bed so Hanover can transfer her to you. I’m sorry for the sharpness, but the FB is the fastest way to get the news out. Hanover calls hospital, but I can not move forward without giving my best shot. ”

“Mother, please continue the war. We love you so much and are not ready to lose you, ”Ryder pleaded in his December 1 post.

Four hours later, a doctor from York Hospital called and arranged for a transfer the next day.

“A nurse at York Hospital saw my post and took me to a doctor in the Covid ICU, who immediately called my cell phone,” Ryder later wrote. “I told him my mother’s doctor in Hanover. Named, he immediately called them, preparing to hand over his mother when we spoke to York.

A few minutes later, Subkas called Ryder and said, “Shawn, we ‘ll pick her up.”

“Right now, it’s the F-King leadership, ladies and gentlemen right there. It’s not just about other people, it’s about a man who is confident in his abilities. It is someone who is not going to blame someone else and avoid challenges. That’s what I’m always going to do, and that’s what my mother wants now, ”Ryder wrote.

Although Ryder ‘s mother was still in critical condition and on a ventilator, her father was able to see her and talk to Ryder via zoom.
