On Wednesday 5 June 2024, a public meeting was held by OPECIN (Office of Exchanges in Pluseanne) to inform the residents of Plousan (Finister) of the twinning with the town of Kilrush in Ireland. 19 people responded to the invitation of Christian Poullauc, Sandrine Pasquet and Jacqueline Balcon, president of the committee in charge of resuming twinning.
“Exchanges that have been stagnant for years have restarted terribly: but indications are that these twins will soon resume, Underlines the President. Twice, in 2023 and 2024, an Irish band performed here Plusane. Two musicians from this group live in Kilrush and have expressed a desire to participate. »
An Irish delegation for SeaTech Week
In town too, few people are interested in reviving the twins. For a year, regular video conference meetings have been organized and the first results are felt. For the past six months, a class from Keralan College has been in touch with their Kilrush counterparts and the project will be extended into next year.
A small delegation from Kilrush could come to Pluseanne in October 2024 for Sea Tech Week, dedicated to marine science and technology, with Ireland as their guest. A more substantial reception is also in the works for May 2025, with a big Irish evening of traditional music and dancing.
The meeting participants agreed to meet in September to provide another update on the progress of the projects.
