Netflix is breaking new ground: the streaming service is looking for show attendees

Published on

With the motto “The Real You”, Netflix begins “the biggest casting call ever.” The streaming service wants to build more reality TV formats in the future. To find participants, interested parties can now apply with their one minute video, which says “Netflix Reality“.

Manufactured formats range from dating shows to cooking shows and action formats. Potential participants can apply directly at several shows. But Germany has a catch: so far, it only wants partners from the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The transition from high-quality series and movies to reality formats has a cost-saving background. For series like “The Witcher”, a production can fetch up to US $ 10 million per episode. On the other hand, reality shows can be made in a very cheap way. However, one can expect Netflix not to lose its reputation for high profile formats.

Previously, it has already been shown that such a format change can also go wrong. The long-successful music broadcaster has dug his own grave with MTV reality shows. Initially the ratings seemed to remain stable but over time the station lost viewers. It’s exciting how things are going for Netflix.
