The NASA Artemis mission faces a number of challenges, including getting humans back to the moon for the first time in decades. Although many aspects of the Artemis mission are still undecided, NASA is hard at work collecting data and companies to help overcome the obstacles to the execution of the missions. The space agency recently offered a $ 25,000 gift purse to help astronauts use design systems to land cargo on the moon.
The NASA Lunar Delivery Challenge Winning winners can share up to 25,000 prize pool up to six people. NASA wants to find out how astronauts can unload the equipment needed to build their base camp and conduct scientific experiments on the moon. The current cargo unloading systems on Earth are so large that they are not designed to be sent into space by the moon.
Systems need to be designed to operate on the Moon, which has six times less gravity than Earth. The systems that NASA wants to design will be brought to the South Pole of the Moon using commercial lenders of various sizes. Once in their place, they will be subject to the 17 percent gravitational pull they feel on Earth.
NASA wants affordable and practical solutions to support a variety of payloads. NASA competes in the Crowdsourcing Social Network HeroX. Teams wishing to participate have until January 19th. NASA notes and a brief description of the challenges suggest that these systems could be used on the surface of Mars.
NASA aims to send humans back to the moon by 2024. The image was shared at the top of the picture showing three different landers to give contestants a better idea of the limitations they operate. Landers are from Blue Origins, Dynamics and SpaceX.
