Getting to Ken Dukan (42) was not easy. Although he lives in Berlin with his wife, Marisa Leoni Bach, 43, and son, Viggo, 12, his work took him abroad for weeks. He takes his time for BZ, and can turn them on during breakfast via video conference.

There he is now in Ireland, somewhere on the beach. How appropriate, because we want to talk about “Vicky and the Powerful – The Magic Sword” (in the movie from September 2). In the new animated film, Duken gives his voice to a warrior named Leafy, who sends Vicky to a Nigoious island.

BZ: Mr. Dukan, what are you doing in Ireland?

Ken Dukan: I’m filming in Dublin, and now I’m having breakfast and talking to you at the same time.

What turns out?

I’re in front of the camera for the second season of the Netflix series “Fate: The Winx Saga”. Shooting will continue until mid-November, but I can’t say how long I’ve been here.

So let’s drag it out. Are you still homeless in Germany?

Oh, and because of the situation we all have, coming home is more difficult. I’m not home for the last three months, because Netflix defines you as having to be on some kind of soft quarantine for five days when you go home and come back. Since I have no more than five days off, I can’t go home.

Haven’t you seen your family for so long?

So far, things have gone very well, because she may come to me during the summer holidays, but it is not as usual. I am a person who flies home one day to see her. My family is more important to me than my environmental footprints. As long as my son is very young. As a father you do not want to waste this time.

Where is that place you call home?

I have been a Berliner for 16 years and I love this city. I grew up in Bavaria, Garmisch-Pattenkirchen. Sure, the mountains are great for sports, but I don’t feel like I’m really home there.

How is that?

If you have not lived there for three generations, you are not unified, and you are not a Bavarian. Sometimes I go to Munich and it’s good. But the first time I felt at home was in Berlin. The key turned, and I didn’t want to go. Before that, I always wanted to wander, but since I live west of Berlin, I always have to go home.

Travel the distance and return home – this is the new “Wiki” movie. What do you associate with this cartoon character?

My childhood! In the meantime, the cartoons became more diverse, but the wiki remained outdated. I enjoyed it and I was not ashamed to say it years later. So I did not have to think for a second about being a part of a new movie.

Did your son suddenly get excited when you were told in the picture that you were talking to a young Viking named Leaf?

My son thinks this is a lot of fun, but now he is more interested in the Japanese animated Naruto. But I’m sure he will enjoy watching the movie a lot.

In the movie, Vicky wants to go with her father on her travels. But he does not want to allow it …

But one has to say that “Vicky and the Strong Men – The Magic Sword” is a new beginning to the story. In the old cartoon series, the father knew exactly what he got in his son. That was always the case: Vicky was ultimately a smarter kid, superior to the muscular men around him with his ideas.

How is it between you and your son?

My son and I have a very good relationship and need not talk about things in the movie. Sure, we ask ourselves, but I always like to keep it private.

You have been with your wife Marisa Leoni Bach for a long time. What is the secret of your relationship?

Probably not talking about it in interviews. Let me put it this way: if something is important to you, especially when it comes to family relationships, you need to protect it.
