Russia can move nuclear weapons by recreating a scene that evokes the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and placing it not too far from the US coast. According to the New York Times, this is one of the steps taken by Russian officials. If Vladimir Putin’s demands are not accepted, talks were held last week between Moscow and the West. “Some of its officials have suggested that Russia’s security interests could be pursued in different ways:” there have been indications that nuclear weapons could be moved, but it has never been clear, “the NYT said.
The New York Times points out that Putin has been pointing the finger at this approach for the past year, warning that the reaction would be unpredictable if the West crossed the “red line”. In fact, last November, Putin himself suggested that Russia could deploy hypersonic submarine missiles within striking range of Washington.
The Russian president has repeatedly said that the possibility of Western military expansion into Ukraine is an unacceptable danger, as it could be used to launch a nuclear attack on Moscow with a few minutes’ warning. He said Russia could do the same.
