If you are thinking about upgrading to Windows 10 but do not have to pay, you still have the option to upgrade to the latest version of this operating system as confirmed by a Microsoft representative. He revealed this in a user-generated user support forum that answers the question of whether it is possible to legally upgrade from Windows 8.1 to the latest version of Windows 10.
The instructions given by a Microsoft employee are very simple – you do not have to take any illegal or suspicious steps online or on your device to enjoy the official version of Windows 10. Unfortunately, the employee does not guarantee that this method will work without exception on all systems, so when you decide to try it out, you should be careful and back up at least the most important files.
How to install Windows 10?
First, you need to install the licensed version of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 on the device you want to upgrade. If for some reason you are still using older versions of this operating system, we are sadly aware that you will not be able to upgrade to Windows 10.
When you find that your OS can be upgraded, go to the Windows 10 Windows download page to download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. Open the downloaded file and click “Upgrade this PC now”.
Make sure you select the option that allows you to save files and information on your computer according to the settings. According to a Microsoft employee who talked about this method of upgrading the operating system, selecting a “clean” installation (when formatting the hard disk and erasing all information on it) may fail. Therefore, choosing the first option – saving existing files – reduces the risk.
When the update is successful, click on Activate in the Update and Security section and open the settings by connecting to the Internet. In this window you will see whether activating the new system version is successful or not. If you still see that the system is not activated, there should be an activation button next to it, which will take you to the Microsoft servers and give you the digital license key.
Lastly, if the system cannot be activated online, you can do this manually by entering the current code, which should be reviewed and written down before upgrading to Windows 10.
