Mercedes-Benz has started production of the compact crossover GLC. The conveyor has started operating at the German factories in Bremen and Sindelfingen, and will join the Beijing factory in late 2022.
The third-generation GLC will be available in gasoline and diesel units, as well as several hybrid versions, including a plug-in model.
The new model has been extended by 6 cm and now stands at 4.72 m. The wheelbase increased by 1.5 cm (up to 2.89 m), the luggage compartment capacity increased by 10% to 600 (1640) liters. The height of the car was reduced to 4 mm, the coefficient of air resistance – from 0.31 to 0.29 cw.
In the GLC cabin, two high-resolution LCD screens with 12.3 and 11.9-inch gauges and multimedia, better sound insulation, heated front seats, smartphone integration, wireless charging, but a 9×3 cm projection display, Burmeister 15 speakers, pneumatic or sports suspension for a premium.
The new MBUX multimedia device includes navigation with augmented reality function, improved voice control and newsflash function, which can read up to 2 minutes of news from your favorite news source.
The GLC buyer is also available with the Offroad Engineering Package, which not only provides additional protection to the lower body but also increases the ground clearance by 20mm. Such GLCs can also be equipped with a “transparent engine hood” – a system that makes driving on difficult off-road sections a little easier.
Among the innovations, it is worth mentioning the suspension with rear wheel tilting (up to 4.5 degrees) and the improved trailer assistant that can overcome even 90 degree bends. The GLC buyer should know that ICE versions can carry 2400 kg, hybrids – 2000 kg.
All gasoline and diesel engines with 197-258 hp are equipped with a mild hybrid system and a 48V starter generator, which temporarily contributes 23 hp, while plug-in hybrids with 313-381 hp will consume an average of 0.6-0.8 liters. It can travel 104-120 km in electric mode for every 100 km.
The plug-in hybrid GLC 300 e 4Matic (from EUR 71,471) and GLC 400 e 4Matic (from EUR 74,922) are already available to the buyer, the GLC 300 d 4Matic with mild hybrid technology will be launched in December, and the third version with hybrid technology, the GLC 300 de 4Matic is planned for spring 2023.
