Mathematics and physics are not mandatory for engineering: AICTE

Published on

Must have studied Inter Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry to study Engineering. So far the rule is the same. However, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) says it is no longer mandatory. Inter Mathematics and Physics subjects are optional for engineering admission from the 2021–22 academic year. The AICTE revealed this in a handbook published on the eligibility to study engineering.

Candidates should have three courses in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology, Biology, Informatics Practice, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Course, Agriculture, Engineering Graphics, Business Studies and Inter Entrepreneurship. Entrance. Students must obtain a minimum of 45% marks in all three subjects combined. Those with reservation should get 40% marks.

However, AICTE has announced that it will launch bridge courses in engineering for students who have not studied the mathematics and physics required for inter-engineering. Engineering drawing will be taught as a duty along with these two subjects. Criticism of the AICTE decision has been high. The University of Science Vice-Chancellor S.K.Singh said that the bridge course is only for those who have one week to study mathematics. Vaidya Subramaniam said. Moreover, he said it would be inappropriate to give students the opportunity to study engineering if they have not read the actual maths.

Rita John, Head, Department of Physics, University of Madras, said that it is very difficult to understand the basic principles of science without mathematics and physics. He expressed concern that reading engineering without such topics would be detrimental to new inventions in the future. It is said that up to 7 semesters out of a total of 8 semesters in engineering are math classes, it is not good to read without such basics.

AICTE responded to the criticism. The explanation given is that the handbook does not say that it is optional. AICTE Chairman Anil D said only three topics should be read. Sahasrabuddha said. He said the decision was made to create more opportunities in engineering.

However, those who take other courses and do engineering will be trained in the required subjects. For example, if a student is not reading Inter Maths .. Engineering Fastier will focus more on that subject. He explained that maths courses are mostly offered to diploma students who go directly to secondary.
