The Sant Elia Stadium in Cagliari was chosen as the venue for a group stage of the World Championships. Group F has hosted three matches. Sardinia and Sicily (along with Palermo) became the landing place after much talk about the lottery. Two of the most feared of the fans, England and Holland, with a direct confrontation at Cagliari.
On the evening of 11 June 1990, the lights of the renewed Sant Elia were turned on for the match between England and Ireland. Although 35,000 tickets were split – as in many other matches at that World Cup – the audience at the stands was actually very small. The fact that a large number of coupons are handled directly by sponsors, they are often not used. The show has seemed a bit unfocused in recent episodes, however;
There were no goals in the second game, but a more enjoyable show, especially thanks to England, as Dutch champions Gascoigne dragged Dutch champions Europe, with stars Gulit and Van Basten never proof.
