Live: The busy Opali Road was closed following the death of a young man in a horrific accident

A young man was killed in a motorbike accident in Co-opali this morning.

A 20-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle skidded off the road in Edenderi just after 10am today.

R401 closed due to crash with local diversions.

A Garda spokesman said: “Garda is appealing for witnesses in Thullamore following a traffic collision on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at the Endeavor in Co-opali.

A 20-year-old man was seriously injured when his motorcycle left the road while traveling on R401 near Eden after 10am.

“The alarm was raised and garda and emergency services were called to the scene. Shortly afterwards, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead.

“Garda forensic collision investigators are inspecting the crash site and local diversions are underway.

“Investigating the Garda invites witnesses and those with video footage (including the dash cam) to contact them for recordings along the route during the collision.

“Anyone with information is requested to contact the Thullamore Garda Station at 057-9327600 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.”
