Lilyhammer, the first Netflix Original released by Netflix, will soon be released in several territories, including the United States. This historic withdrawal follows a string of high-profile Netflix Originals departures, and many more are expected in the coming months and years.
The series was Netflix’s first Netflix Original title, and it is the first exclusive international co-production/distribution category, with different genres of Netflix Originals. Of course, Netflix also tried originals through Red Envelope Entertainment, but that’s another story.
Starring Steven Van Zandt, the series sees former mobster Frank Tagliano enter the witness protection program and ask to be sent to Norway after testifying against the Mafia.
In October 2011, Netflix first entered into an exclusive licensing agreement to bring Netflix original programming. It was later picked up in at least 9 other territories, including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, Sweden, the UK and Colombia. The UK and Ireland later received the series.
When he first acquired the series, Ted Sarandos said:
“‘Lilyhammer’ is great dark and funny television, marked by great storytelling and an outrageous culture clash, and Netflix is incredibly proud to bring it to American, Canadian and Latin American subscribers.”
The series will premiere on Netflix US starting February 6, 2012.
That was after the first season aired in Norway on NRK1.
In February 2022, Netflix celebrated the series’ 10th anniversary. Lily hammer Reuniting Stevie Van Zandt and Ted Sarandos in an online call, they revisited the importance of the show.
Lillihammer arrives on Netflix worldwide on November 21st.
Now, all three seasons of the series are ready to go worldwide.
Removal notices started appearing It is stated that the show will be taken down on November 21, 2022.. The last day for you to watch is 20 November 2022.
Although the takedown notice isn’t on the title page itself, you can see it in the upper left corner when watching an episode of the series.
Why November 21, 2022? It’s been exactly eight years since the release of the third one, and what… will be The final season of the series premiered on November 21, 2014.
Could Netflix renew Lilyhammer?
Netflix may renew the rights to the series to continue streaming in the future, but given the takedown notice and sources saying Netflix chose not to renew Hemlock Grove (another very popular Netflix original withdrawal), that seems unlikely.
The rights to the series will be returned to Seven One International and Red Arrow Studios.
Lily hammer It will join the list of more than 60 other Netflix originals (of which Netflix owns more than 3,252 copies at the time of publication), representing 50% of the entire Netflix library.
