Libon: Schools that find the oval ball

The children proudly wore the colors of the top six rugby nations in the world rankings.

The tournament was to be held at Plins Stadium. Bad weather at the start of last week scuppered plans for Rugby Club Libourne. But not enough to discourage the rugby club and the schools that registered for this first inter-institutional tournament. The schools of Genissac, Saint-Sulpice-de-Falérance in the south and Marie-Marvingt for Libon took part in the competition.

An appointment was made this Friday, November 25th, in the afternoon at the Kondatt Gymnasium. The event was organized to end the “Oval Ball” cycle shared by the schools during this first part of the academic year. In this sense an agreement has been signed with RCL to introduce the sport to the youngest.

Malik Geziel, a teacher at rugby club Libourne, piloted the bicycle with school children. He comments: “The next World Cup in France is to combine everything in a fun way and get to know rugby. We are in a touch format and the kids have fun“. Through this initiative, we hope to feed the young shoots of the club.”We have people but we still lack youth in U8 for example. He continues. Also on the field to referee and animate the tournament were Brandon, Malik, Lucas, Jonathan, RCL’s senior players, Co-President Frederic Holgado, junior player Leo, and U16 trainee and player Mathis.
At his side in the afternoon, Carlos Ferreira, director of the Epinet School and coordinator of the Libernais Success Observatory. He paid attention to the performance of the youth and was satisfied with the program. “It is a great success because we gather a lot of things: the possibility to meet again after complicated years and motor skills, and to live together, handling the ball at a sports level. He highlighted the success of rugby club supervision and the work being done by teachers in the education sector.

What better way to introduce the kids to the Oval Ball than to integrate the context of the future World Cup in France next year. For this occasion, the RCL paired each school with one of the top six teams in the world rankings (Ireland, France, New Zealand, South Africa, England and Argentina). The Springbok World Champions won this inter-school tournament. Goodies and shared snacks were presented to the participants.
