Leader Tom Lam met with leaders of Ireland's Senate and House of Representatives

President of the Irish Senate Gerry Buttimer confirmed that the visit of the Secretary General and President Tho Lam has helped to further strengthen Ireland-Vietnam relations. He welcomed Vietnam's decision to open an embassy in Ireland.

The Vietnamese leader announced the key results of his talks with Irish President Michael Higgins and Prime Minister Simon Harris. He emphasized that Vietnam attaches great importance to friendly relations and multilateral cooperation with Ireland and is ready to promote bilateral parliamentary cooperation.

Secretary-General and President To Lam welcomed the creation of the Vietnam National Assembly of the Vietnam-Ireland Parliamentary Friendship Group and the Irish Parliament of the Ireland-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, stressing that these groups will be an important bridge to contribute. Strengthen the relationship between the two legislatures and especially the two countries.

Both sides agreed to deepen their bilateral relations by strengthening exchanges of representatives at all levels, including committees/groups of parliamentarians of both countries; Organization of exchange and sharing of legislative experiences, political debates and theoretical seminars.

They agreed to coordinate and support each other in regional and global interparliamentary forums, thus promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), gender equality, response to climate change and global challenges; Intensification of people-to-people exchanges, cooperation in education, training, agriculture, tourism and sustainable development.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese leader called on the Irish Parliament to quickly ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to create more favorable conditions for bilateral investments and to “encourage the European Commission (EC) to withdraw the yellow card”. “It was sent to the country for fishing methods.

Irish Parliamentary Leaders appreciated the contribution of the Vietnamese community to the socio-economic development of Ireland and affirmed that they would support the successful integration of the Vietnamese community, thereby contributing to economic growth and strengthening understanding between the people of the two countries.

Discussing regional and international issues, both sides agreed on the need to strengthen coordination in responding to climate change. Regarding the East Sea, both sides expressed their support for ASEAN's position to maintain peace, stability, security and freedom of navigation, and resolve disputes peacefully based on international law, including the 1982 United Nations Law of the Sea.
