New Delhi: The Indian Newspaper Society has written to Google seeking a higher salary. Google India Country Manager Sanjay Gupta has written a letter to INS President L Adimul asking him to use the content and increase the share of advertising revenue. It wants to increase the publisher’s advertising revenue share to 85 percent.
The INS letter comes after the Australian Parliament asked Google and Facebook to pay more for media outlets. The country’s media houses, with the help of thousands of journalists, collect news from the grassroots. This content authenticates Google in India. The letter also called for increased transparency in revenue reporting to publishers as well as increasing advertising revenue.
At the same time, the letter asks what percentage of ad revenue Google pays to the publisher. Publishers do not know the basis of this. There is a fixed amount but it is not known why. The INS also claims that the content is basically from the media and therefore needs more money.
