The nun complained that between 2014 and 2016, Franco Mulakal was raped in his own rural convent. The prosecutor announced the appeal.

The first priest to be judged- Mulakkal is the first priest to be tried in India and the South Kerala court has acquitted him in the case.

Complaint of 2018 – From her side, the nun said she repeatedly turned to the church and eventually decided to turn to the police. They filed a complaint in 2018, but the police investigation began a few months later after five other nuns staged daily protests outside the high court. At the time of his arrest, the Vatican had suspended him from office at his request. The priest has always denied that he did anything wrong.

Protests and Dissent – The protest divided the small Christian minority in Hindu-majority India, which represents 2.3% of the population, according to the census. Sprout was arrested in September 2018 and later released on bail.
