Sheboygan (AP) – Rider Cup – This is the most important team competition in golf. Over the course of three days, the top twelve golfers from Europe and the USA will compete against each other.
For the 43rd edition, the Whistling Straits Golf Course in the US state of Wisconsin is the venue for a proud continental comparison. On the shores of Lake Michigan, the U.S. team wants to reclaim the title from the Europeans.
Die Rider-Cup-Tradition: The 1927 Ryder Cup is played for the first time in Worcester (USA). Until 1971, only the USA and Great Britain provided teams, and “Rest of Europe” has been part of the team since 1979. It is named after a seed dealer from England and a golf lover, Samuel Ryder. He also donated a small gold cup.
Balance from a European perspective: 42 battles – 14 wins – 26 defeats – 2 draws
Method: With 28 points from three days (four for 16, 12 for the individual), the reigning champion already has a chance to win. The challenger must score at least 14.5: 13.5.
Game formats: Four team duels will be played in two sessions on Friday and Saturday – the so-called four. A team consists of two players. The winning team was rated 1: 0 by a hole – 0.5: 0.5 in the case of a “split” draw. Twelve singles – man against man – are on the show on Sunday.
Rider Cup on TV: The continental comparison of the best golfers in Europe and the USA can only be seen on Pay TV broadcaster Sky in Germany. The games will be broadcast live on Fridays and Saturdays from 2pm to 1pm. The final on Sunday will begin at 6 p.m.
