Here we are: “Giovanni Nasi & Diazorin International Cup for Golfers with a Disability”, valid days only for the EDGA TOUR competition on September 9th and 10th at Golf Torino – La Mandria. World ranking of golfers with a WR4GD handicap recognized by the Italian Golf Federation and sponsored by the Italian Paralympic Committee.
The Giovanni Nazi Trophy has always been an example of inclusion in the Italian golf scene: born in 1996 by the will of the sons Andrea and Tiziana to remember their father, president of Golf Torino from 1946 to 1982, it has always reserved a ranking. Awarded to the first handicap golfer.
My first partnership dates back to 2017: I met the volcano Tiziana Nazia, then President of FISIP (Italian Paralympic Winter Sports Federation) and now Vice-President of the Italian Paralympic Committee.
Last year, while chatting with Tiziana and the ‘Flag’ of Piedmontese Paralympic Golf Gregorio Guglielminetti about the future of this competition, a ‘crazy’ idea came out: but why not make the Giovanni Nazi Trophy an international competition of the EDGA circuit?
A close-knit, passionate, sometimes reckless team was immediately formed, and day after day, emails, video calls, messages and meetings were exchanged between one work commitment and another to shape this event. Combining professionalism and enthusiasm, Diazorin has set no limits to his cooperation: in addition to work “institutional” All participants contributed by adding details that made this race memorable.
The result makes us all proud: more than 70 registered players, including golfers from France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Israel, Belgium, Chile, United Kingdom, Ireland, Holland, Turkey, Germany and Slovakia, in addition to a large group of Italians. One of the most played tournaments on the EDGA circuit.
One aspect that makes me particularly happy is the presence of eight golfers, including ‘star’ Daphne Van Houten. If we consider that there are usually two or three female performances in these tournaments, an important result to aim for in the next edition as well, often one.
Among the elite players, in addition to the aforementioned Daphne van Houten, Neela Tommaso Perino, Manuel de los Santos, Irish Gareth McNeely and Conor Stone, members of Team Ireland, the European team champion.
In short, it will be pure fun and entertainment!
