Funeral of slain Iranian nuclear scientist

Tehran is burying the body of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, one of Iran ‘s best nuclear scientists killed in an attack on the Islamic Republic of Israel.

State television showed several high-ranking Iranian officials, including Defense Minister Amir Hatami and the head of the Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, at the funeral of Fakrizadeh, whose body was wrapped in an Iranian flag.

A picture of Fakhrizadeh, a close ally of Iran ‘s top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and former top general Qasem Solimani has been killed in a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad in January.

The Ministry of Defense said the funeral home was not open to the public to maintain health protocols regarding the corona virus outbreak.

As part of the pre-funeral procession, the remains of Fakhrizade were taken to the holy Shia shrines in the northeastern city of Mashad, in the central Iranian city of Kom, and to the shrine of Ruhola Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Tehran.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has accused the US of working as a mercenary in the assassination of Fakrizadeh. Supreme Leader Khamenei called for the perpetrators to be punished.
