After the new bilateral meeting, France called for a “speedy resolution” to the dispute between them and London over a fishing license. “This morning I spoke again with my opponent, David Frost. France is open to dialogue, but our fishermen need to find a quick solution to the implementation of our agreements, ”Clement Boone, French Secretary of State for European Affairs, tweeted on Tuesday.

But the French and the British argue about the nature and scope of the supporting documents to be provided. Paris, which alleges that London does not respect the terms of the agreement, says 200 license applications for French boats have expired, a figure London disputes.

About a quarter (approximately 20% of the value) of French catches in quantity come from British waters, which are rich in fish and a source of 650 million euros in annual sales to European fishermen.
