Ireland and Italy have questioned Facebook about their new smart glasses, which were developed and launched in partnership with Ray-Ban. The model can take photos and videos that concern European countries regarding privacy.
The company was sued by the Data Protection Commission of Ireland and the Data Protection Authority of Italy last Friday (17). Agencies also say that cats need to be included in any precautionary measures against the virus.
When called Ray-Ban Stories, Facebook said that everyone is concerned about privacy and therefore the glasses will shine every time they record.
However, data protection agencies in Ireland and Italy said in a statement that “people caught on video are concerned about the ways in which they can be recorded.”
In the opinion of institutions, it is much easier to focus on portraying a person with a cell phone than on Ray-Ban stories. “In the glasses, a very small indicator light comes on while the recording is going on,” she said.
Regulators said it was not clear whether Facebook and Ray-Ban had conducted tests to make sure the lights were adequate for people to pay attention to the footage. Therefore, the bodies asked the social network to confirm this issue and to guide consumers that glasses can be used to collect other people’s pictures without their consent.
