Excess black hole population found in star cluster

Published on

London, July 6: An international team of astronomers has discovered a population of over a hundred black holes in the center of a unique star cluster.

A globular cluster called Palomer 5 was discovered in 1950. It is located in the galaxy Cerpen, about 80,000 light-years away, and is one of about 150 global clusters orbiting the Milky Way. The Unicorn black hole is the closest thing to Earth – and one of the smallest that scientists have discovered, here are the things you need to know

Like other global globular clusters, it is more than 10 billion years old, meaning it formed in the early stages of galaxy formation. This is 10 times less than a typical spherical cluster, and in the final stages of dissolution.

“The number of black holes in the cluster is about three times greater than the total number of black holes in the cluster, each of which has a mass of about 20 times the mass of the supernovae at the end of the cluster,” he said. Writer Mark Giles (ICCUB).

In a study published in the journal Nature Astronomy, it was found that Plomer 5 was formed using a fraction of a black hole, but that stars escaped more efficiently than black holes, and that the black hole fragmentation gradually increased.

Black holes raised the cluster dynamically in gravitational slingshot interactions with stars, leading to more escaping stars. Just before it completely dissolved – about a billion years from now, the cluster is completely covered by black holes.

“The Fluffy Palomer 5 cluster has the brightest and longest tails of any cluster in the Milky Way, but this work has helped us to understand that it is not unique. Instead, we believe that there are many similar puff and black hole dominated clusters. .

Tidal streams are streams of stars that have been ejected from obstructing star clusters or dwarf galaxies. Over the past few years, about thirty thin streams have been found in the Milky Way.
