The Eurovision 2024 results debate continues! Today, we're finally down to the top 10, which includes a few guests…
10th place: Portugal, 152 points
One of the biggest disagreements between the public and the jury this year was about Portugal. As in 2022, the country makes the top 10 thanks to the jury, in which it ranks seventh with 132 points. Three times 12 points, including from the French jury, which is not bad, it makes up for the sad 13 points left by the public, all of which come from French-speaking countries: 6 from Luxembourg, 5 from France, 2 from Switzerland. Nothing from Spain! Best of all, Ionda is the last of the 6 Televotes.
It will be the fourth consecutive final for Portugal, once one of the worst nations in the competition and one of the second best 10 nations in the same period, who would have believed it?
In the semi-finals, Ionda is in eighth place with 58 points. It gets points from everyone except Sweden (including 12 points from the very Lusophile Luxembourg), which is not surprising given the difference between the artistic direction of the two selections, Melodifestivalen and Festival da Canção. And, while we're talking about werewolves…
9th: Sweden, 174 points
Sweden is a country of more interest to the jury than to the public (as is often the case, of course), but with a narrower gap than Portugal. 49 points from televote and 125 points from qualifying judges. Germany gives 12 points to Markus and Martinez, on the other hand, no 12 points from the public: even Norway, where the twins come and where they are very popular, only gives 10 points. Interestingly, Moldova is the second most generous country with 8 points ahead of Iceland and Denmark.
Sweden have looked invincible since 2011 and there have been rare years when they haven't been among the favorites to win. If not this year then definitely next year…
Eighth: Armenia, 183 points
Armenians didn't bother too much to elect their representative and it still pays off! Ladaniva got points from everyone in the semifinals, including 12 from Georgia and Israel. In the finals, the country finished ninth in each ranking but eighth overall. 82 points from the public, 101 points from the jury, not 12 points, but 10 points from the French and Israeli audience, 8 points from the Albanian, Portuguese and San Marino judges. Unsurprisingly, Azerbaijan beat Armenia to last place in each ranking.
This now makes it 3 finals in a row for the Armenians, although not in the top 10 since 2016!
Seventh: Italy, 268 points
We doubted until the end that we would not go to Italy, but the country is doing well everywhere, although it does not have 12 points this year. 164 points from the judges, including 10 points four times, and 104 points from the public, no more than 8 points at a time. 4th in Jury, 7th in Public, and last ranking outside the top 10 since 2016, not much to say for a country…
Sixth: Ireland, 278 points
Here is someone who can claim her title dark Horse Post Rehearsals… the darkness It suits him well! While Ireland's qualification was a question mark before rehearsals, they were almost certain to go through on semi-final night… and third place and points from all countries, that did one thing ! Bambi Thug doesn't have 12 points, but still has 10 points from English-speaking countries, ie Australia, the United Kingdom… and the rest of the world.
In the final, the witch surprisingly gets more points from the jury than the audience. 142 points from the judges, including 12 points from Australia, and 4 final places, means Bambi is a bit of a rip off. The public gives 136 points and only 5 countries give none.
Ireland ended a four-year losing streak by taking such a risk… Interestingly, Bambi placed 6th in the public, 6th in the jury and 6th in the finish. 666, that was his fate!
See you tomorrow for the end of the results debate!
