With the 2021 European Film Awards season coming up, the taste of deja vu may not have to be. One year after the ceremony was reduced to a strict minimum, the Academy of European Cinema had to adapt to health conditions in Germany and elsewhere on the Old Continent. So the 34th ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 11 in Berlin. However, as announced last week, only nominees and winners can participate. It’s hard to predict when the nominations will be announced, traditionally and personally, after the Seville European Film Festival last November 9.
After showing generosity last year, the academy returned to the usual five candidates in 2021 to give more visibility to European cinema with six nominations for each category. Its more than 4,100 members are currently voting to determine a successor Drunk Of Thomas Winterberg, the great winner of last year’s ceremony.
