Third preliminary round of Europa League and Conference League. Well, Anderlecht, Slavia Prague, Fenerbahce, Olympiakos and Sloven Bratislava are evenly matched. Back to challenges next week
On a European evening with around 40 matches scheduled between qualifiers for the Europa League and the conference, the biggest focus from Italy fueled the match at Belgrade’s Stadion Partizan. There the Dutch Twenty closed the Kukariki case, pulling away with first-half goals from Rots, Wlap and Brenet. The result achieved in Serbia (1-3: the goal of the home team is the work of Kovac) does not particularly smile at Fiorentina, the winner between these two teams will face the play-off to access the conference league: next week, in the Netherlands, the second leg of the third qualifying round will be played, in the Twenty (Viola D’Italiano’s worst opponent on card) a draw or loss is sufficient.
A fruitful transfer from Zurich to Northern Ireland thanks to the contribution of Blue Gnondo, author of Linfield on doubling. In the evening’s other games, Fenerbahce (but without Joao Pedro) and Malmo are on top form, with three in each category, and they face a crucial second round next week to clinch a place in the Europa League playoffs. Unsurprisingly, Partisan Belgrade fell to Cyprus. The big match between Olympiakos and Kuka’s Sloven Bratislava ended in a draw with the Greeks signing in extremis. Hjk Helsinki (in Slovenia) and the Irish of Shamrock Rovers (three of a kind for the Macedonians in Shkupi in a match that lasted over 100 minutes).
Many Italians on the field in the third round of the conference league. Esposito’s Anderlecht win in Estonia. Istanbul Basaksehir of Okaka in Iceland also won. Scuffet kept a clean sheet in his draw for Cluj. Brignoli, the Panathinaikos goalkeeper, conceded two goals in the knockout win in Prague (there were as many sent offs). Pisanu’s Maltese of the Hibernians drew level in Latvia but the hosts hit back in the 85th minute. Mr. Bergodi’s Sfantu Gheorghe surrendered to the Swedes at Djurgarden in Romania. Nainggolan scored a brace in a trio of wins over Antwerp Lillstrom in Norway. Home wins for Maccabi Tel Aviv (Zahavi’s goal against Iturbe’s Aris Thessaloniki), Apoel Nicosia and Molde. The Young Boys are off to a winning start as they raise the white flag in Basel Denmark. In the return, Livaja’s Hajduk Spalato outclassed Vitoria Guimaraes. And miracles. The Irish beat Sofia in St. Patrick’s, Hapoel Beer Sheva did the same in Lugano, Rapid Vienna collapsed in Baku and Vadus held off Konyaspor. Lech Poznan lost in Iceland and Alkmaar were defeated by Dundee. Shkendija equalized at Eik Maidan. Viking and Fehrvar proved to be mouths of fire: 5 goals each for both clubs. Two red cards in Zrinjski Mostar-Tobol Kostanay (measure the Bosnians’ success).
