Edward Mendy says ‘a club like Chelsea FC, you have to win’ because newcomers and childhood fans are the outline of aspirations

Edward Mendy, who signed for New Chelsea, outlined his aspirations after joining the club he supported as a boy.

Frank Lampard completed a $ 22 million transfer from Mendy Rennes on Thursday morning as he sought to increase his competition for first place at Stamford Bridge.

Kep Arisabalaga, the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, joined Chelsea in 2018 but struggled to impress under Lampard, who has already made a number of mistakes this season.

While Mendy hopes to eventually emerge as the club’s number one goalkeeper, Senegal International are more than happy to know what he wants in his new club.

“I want to keep up with this league and continue my progress and success over the years,” he told the club’s official website. “You have to win at a club like Chelsea.”

“I have been a Chelsea supporter since I was young. I adore this club. When I was 12 I had the opportunity to go to Brighton at a former club I played at and we saw a match. I thought English football was amazing. We went to a store and saw a Chelsea shirt, which was the Ranieri manager in 2003, and I bought this shirt. So I always like this club. “

Since the acquisition of Chelsea by Roman Abramovich in 2003, the club has established a strong fan base in Africa, signing some of the greatest players on the continent.

Mendy will be the club’s first African goalkeeper and the 28 – year – old wants to continue this tradition.

“Most of the African talent has played for this team,” he continued. “Drogba, Essien, Eto’o, Michael. When you see it, you want it to continue. As for the goalkeeper, I am the first, so this makes me very proud, and it is also a huge responsibility. ”

According to Standard Sport, the former Blues keeper was instrumental in bringing Peter Seck Mendy, now the club’s technical and performance advisor, to the club. .

Like Mendy, he joined the Czech club from Renes in 2004, but Mendy’s rise – playing in the third tier of French football six years ago – was a meteor shower.

“As I discuss this story, I understand the path of my career,” Mendy continued. “It simply came to our notice then. What people say is that hard work pays off, and it does. I worked very hard; I have not taken anything lightly. I was in Marseille, then Reims, then Rennes, now Chelsea. It is a continuous improvement and now I am ready to continue on that upward path. ”

“Yes, he is [Cech] He called me during the transfer and assured me. It was great to have someone from the club talk to me. It showed that they really wanted me, and it was really appreciated. ”
