Disney has announced the return of Star Wars spinoffs, 10 new Marvel series and Kardashian descent to TV.
At the Digital Investor Day presentation, the company unveiled new series and movies planned for the coming years, many of which are set for the streaming platform Disney +.
Here are some of the biggest and most talked about announcements …
1. Star Wars will receive 10 spinoff series, including one starring Donald Glover
Following the success of The Mandalorian, featuring fan favorite Baby Yoda, more Star Wars spinoffs are being added to Disney +.
The series, which includes Droids C-3PO and R2-D2, also includes Donald Glover-played smuggler Lando Caloris – also known as rapper Childish Gambino.
Based on Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen will return to Kenobi as Darth Warder.
There are two Montalorian spin-off series, The Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka.
2. Also gets the franchise’s first female film director
Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is set to star in the new Star Wars movie Rogue Squadron, which is set to hit theaters by Christmas 2023.
This is the first live-action Star Wars film directed by a woman.
3. Chadwick Bosman will not be included again in the Black Panther sequel
The actor died of colon cancer at the age of 43.
Until now, it was not clear how Disney executives would move forward with the next installment of the Oscar-nominated superhero film.
But they confirmed that the new Marvel feature will honor the tradition of its lead actor, “exploring the world of Wakanda and all the rich and diverse characters portrayed in the first film”.
4. Christian Bale joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Along with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson, Batman will appear in Thor: Love and Thunder as the villain God Butcher.
The movie will hit cinemas in May 2022.
5. Kardashians are returning to TV
After being announced three months ago, they announced that Kardashians were retiring from keeping up with the Kardashians, and the family quickly returned to the small screen.
Kim, Chloe, Courtney Kardashian, their mother Chris Jenner, half-sisters Kylie and Kendall Jenner signed a deal with Hulu to create the content.
6. Some of Disney’s biggest movies are yet to be released in theaters
Although the release of several movies has been delayed during the Corona virus pandemic, Disney still expects its biggest features to hit theaters.
These include Marvel’s Black Widow, Pixar’s Luke, the Lion King prequel, and a Bus Lightyear prequel.
7. Disney + also gets a lot of upcoming movies
Tom Hanks will star in a remake of Pinocchio, which will be Disenchanted as a sequel to Amy Adams’ 2007 film Enchanted.
The animated film Raya and Last Dragon will be released simultaneously in cinemas and on streaming platforms in March.
