Cycling. Shane McKay: “French and Irish cycling, two different worlds” – Cycling

French Championship of the Future

How is your season going?

So far so good. It lacks two or three good places to be fully satisfied. I competed in great races like the Classic of the Alps where I finished 12th and the Junior Tour of Ireland in July.

To be precise, you have Irish ancestry on your father’s side. Do you follow Irish cycling?

Yes very little. I have a few friends competing in the Irish selection. I met them when I was on the Junior Tour of Ireland. France and Ireland are worlds apart when it comes to cycling. Here, in France, there are many requirements. This is due to better supervision than in Ireland. Some Irish cyclists always stand out, but this is rarer than in France. The level is very high and it will happen in “France” on Friday.

Does your selection for the French Championship prove your good form and qualities?

Yes, that’s another difference with Ireland. Everyone can participate in the national championship there. The fact that there is a selection in France shows that the whole team has the capacity to participate in this competition. It is a satisfaction when you are part of the group and it proves that you are not working for nothing. On Friday, we have to give it our all and be in a good position to bring back the tricolor jersey.
