Courtroom Summons Cops In Father-Son Deaths

Two law enforcement officers and a constable in Tamil Nadu have been summoned by the Madras Superior Court docket more than the fatalities of a male and his son arrested for keeping their shop open over and above permitted hrs in the course of the coronavirus lockdown. Jeyaraj, 59, and his son Beniks, 31, ended up arrested on June 19. The law enforcement claimed in their FIR that the two argued and fought with the police, showered verbal abuses and rolled around on the road to struggle their arrest.

The two men ended up allegedly subjected to brutal torture at the police station. Their family alleges they experienced significant interior and exterior wounds, including rectal bleeding, when they have been released.

Beniks died in medical center on June 22. His father died the subsequent working day.

There has been an outpouring of anger and grief in excess of the fatalities. Activists, politicians and celebrities have demanded murder charges from the policemen concerned, numerous applying the hashtag #JusticeForJeyarajAndBennicks.

The police have only registered a circumstance of suspicious fatalities until now. The state authorities now handed around the investigation to the CBI. Some activists claimed the shift could dilute the circumstance.
