Congress overrides defense budget

The U.S. Congress on Friday insulted Donald Trump in an unprecedented way, overtaking a majority veto against the defense budget.

At an extraordinary session on January 1, the Senate approved the $ 740 billion budget by 81 votes to 13, despite “presidential opposition.” Since the House of Representatives did the same on Monday, the text was approved correctly.

Trump has used his veto nine times

The majority of Republican-elected officials joined the Democrats, despised their leader in the twilight of his presidency, and are always proud of their support.

During his four years in the White House, Donald Trump used his veto power nine times against bills passed in both chambers. Congress has not yet been able to get the two-thirds majority needed to repeal it.

More elected officials from the party that acknowledged his defeat in the November 3 presidential election, he still disagrees. The billionaire had earlier this week denounced the “weak and tired Republican leadership.”

Republican Senator Mitch McConnell did not ask his troops to vote on the 2021 defense budget. “This is to ensure that we continue to compete against our rivals, such as Russia and China,” he said at the opening of the debate on Friday. “It is also an opportunity to remind our soldiers and their families of our support,” the influential senator added.

I think one sentence is in favor of China

As a result of lengthy negotiations, this sentence provides for a 3% increase in the salaries of defense officers. As usual for more than half a century, it was approved by a majority in the Democratic majority House and the Republican-controlled Senate in early December. But Donald Trump has announced that he will veto on December 23rdCausing unrest even in his camp.

He thought the sentence was in favor of China. He protested the possibility of renaming military bases honoring Confederate generals who had fought against slavery during the Civil War (1861–1865). He was criticized for not repealing a law known as “Article 230” and for protecting the legal status of social networks.
